$100,000 P.G. Johnson Draws Seven Turf Fillies
Juvenile fillies will take to Saratogas Mellon Turf Course on Wednesday for the 10th edition of the $100,000 P.G. Johnson Stakes. The mile and a sixteenth turf race has drawn a field of seven two-year-old fillies.
Topping the field at 3-1 on the morning line is Raihna Da Bateria for trainer Graham Motion. Purchased by Three Chimneys Farm for $435,000 as a yearling, the chestnut daughter of Broken Vow is a half-sister to several graded stakes winners. She won her career debut at Saratoga under Rajiv Maragh and will again have him in the irons for her stakes debut. She has been training at Fair Hill since her maiden win and will break from post position six.
Magnificent Margo going for two in a row
Second choice on the morning line is Magnificent Margo at odds of 7-2 for trainer Michael Matz. She will have Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the irons after the pair teamed up to break her maiden in her career debut at Saratoga. A dark bay daughter of Congrats out of a Holy Bull mare, she will be stretching out to a route for the first time after sprinting in her debut. She will break from post position five, directly inside the favored Raihna Da Bateria.
French filly to make first start stateside
Also in the field is Ancient Goddess (FR) who will be making her United States debut at odds of 4-1. The French-bred filly will be making her first start for John Terranova and will have Joel Rosario aboard. The bay filly, a daughter of Iffraaj (GB), broke her maiden in her second career start in France after finishing second in her debut effort. She is scheduled to break from the inside post and will get Lasix for the first time.
