$125,000 Rego Park Stakes Draws Field of Seven
On Friday, the featured race at Aqueduct is the $125,000 Rego Park Stakes. Restricted to horses bred in New York, the six-furlong contest has drawn a field of seven colts and geldings.
Headlining the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 9-5 is Deficit Hawk for trainer Richard Violette, Jr. Purchased for $175,000 as a yearling, the dark bay son of Midnight Lute will be making his stakes debut after breaking his maiden in his first career start last time out. He defeated a field of eleven rivals by one-length in the six-furlong maiden race. Kendrick Carmouche will remain aboard and they are scheduled to break from post position six.
Regal Minister cutting back to a sprint
Regal Minister has been installed as the second choice at odds of 2-1 for trainer Mark Hennig. A chestnut son of Posse, a homebred for DATTT Stable, he won the first two starts of his career against state-bred competition before finishing fifth in the Damon Runyon Stakes last time out. He will cut back to a sprint after attempting two-turns and will get a jockey change to Jose Ortiz. They will break from post position five.
Saratoga Dreamer getting a surface switch to dirt
Also in the field at morning line odds of 4-1 is Saratoga Dreamer for trainer Christophe Clement. The chestnut son of Elusive Quality has been on the shelf since finishing eighth and last in the Summer Stakes (G2) on the turf in September. He broke his maiden on the lawn at Saratoga and will be trying the main track for the first time. He has been training forwardly for his sophomore debut and will have Irad Ortiz, Jr. back aboard from post four.
