$300,000 Prioress Stakes Draws Field of Eight
The top three-year-old female sprinters in the country will compete in Saturdays $300,000 Prioress Stakes at Saratoga. It is the 67th edition of the Grade 2 and it will be contested at six furlongs with a field of eight.
The morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 is Sweet Whiskey for trainer Todd Pletcher. The bay daughter of Old Fashioned, a $300,000 purchase as a juvenile, will have John Velazquez in the irons. She is winless since a victory in the Old Hat (G3) at Gulfstream Park in January and will try to improve off of a fifth-place finish in the seven-furlong Test (G1). She is slated to break from post position five.
Miss Behaviour trying to improve off runner-up effort
Second choice at morning line odds of 2-1 is the runner-up in the Test (G1), Miss Behaviour. Trained by Phil Schoenthal and ridden by Javier Castellano, the homebred daughter of Jump Start has been on the board in all four starts this year and has won four of her nine outings. As a juvenile, she won three consecutive races including the Matron (G2). She is making her second start at the Spa and will break from post position six.
Stakes debut for well-bred Thirteen Arrows
Larry Jones will send out the royally-bred Thirteen Arrows in her stakes debut at odds of 8-1 on the morning line. A $350,000 purchase as a yearling, the bay daughter of Indian Charlie is out of the Grade 1 winning mare Stop Traffic and a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Cross Traffic. She has won her last two races and will have Rose Napravnik aboard for the first time from the inside post.
