$75,000 Tropical Park Derby Draws Full Field of Twelve
On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, the track will host the $75,000 Tropical Park Derby. Restricted to three-year-olds, the race will be contested at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf and has drawn a field of twelve colts and geldings.
A Lot tops the competitive field as the morning line favorite at odds of 7-2 for trainer Bill Mott. A bay son of Tapit, he has been on the board in nine of his eleven starts and is a three time winner. He was last seen finishing third in the English Channel Stakes at Belmont Park and he will be trying to earn the second stakes victory of his career. Jose Lezcano will be aboard and they will break from post position eleven.
Well-bred Team Colors improving with each start
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Team Colors for trainer James Jerkens. A bay son of Street Cry (IRE), he has hit the board in seven of his eight starts and has two victories. He made his stakes debut in the English Channel Stakes last time out and finished second. He will be trying to earn his first stakes victory and will break from the outside under jockey Joel Rosario.
Tweet Kitten looking for third straight victory
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Tweet Kitten for trainer Chad Brown. Bred and owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, the bay son of Kitten’s Joy has been on the board in seven of his nine starts and has two wins, including one against stakes company. He will be trying to earn his third straight win and will have Javier Castellano in the irons from post position eight.
