Curvy (GB) Faces Strong Field of Eleven Rivals in $500,000 E.P. Taylor Stakes
On Sunday at Woodbine, the track will host the $500,000 E.P. Taylor Stakes. A Grade 1 event for fillies and mares, the race has been carded at a mile and a quarter on the turf and has drawn a field of twelve.
Curvy (GB), a three-year-old taking on older rivals, has been tabbed as the morning line favorite at 3-1 for trainer David Wachman. A bay daughter of Galileo (GB), she has won four of her ten career starts and made her first North American start last time out in the Flower Bowl Invitational (G1) where she finished fifth as the favorite after a troubled trip. Ryan Moore will be in the irons and they will break from post position nine.
Home track advantage for Canadian champion mare
Second choice at 4-1 on the morning line is Strut the Course for trainer Barbara Minshall. Bred and owned by John Unger, the Ontario-bred daughter of Strut the Stage took home the Sovereign Award as Canada’s champion older mare last year and has won a total of nine times. She has two wins this year and was last seen winning the Canadian Stakes (G2) at Woodbine. Luis Contreras will be aboard and they will break from post position six.
Eastern Belle (GB) looking for breakthrough win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Eastern Belle (GB) for trainer Graham Motion. A four-year-old daughter of Champs Elysees (GB), she has been on the board in ten of her eleven starts and is trying to earn the second victory of her career. She has been second in her last four starts, three of which came against graded stakes company. John Velazquez will be aboard and they are scheduled to break from post position ten.
