Field of Nine Set for $75,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint
On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, sprinters will take to the turf in the 10th edition of the $75,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint. Carded for five-furlongs on the turf, the race has drawn a field of nine colts and geldings.
Bold Thunder headlines the wide open field as the morning line favorite at odds of 3-1 for trainer Patricia Farro. A five-year-old son of Bold n’Flashy, he has won six of his eighteen career starts and is a multiple stakes winner. He made his seasonal debut a winning one last time out at Tampa Bay Downs with a front-running score in the Turf Dash Stakes as the favorite. Paco Lopez will be back aboard and they will break from the rail.
Green Mask making second start off of the bench
Wesley Ward will saddle the second choice, Green Mask, at morning line odds of 7-2. Purchased for $150,000 as a juvenile, the dark bay son of Mizzen Mast has won three of his seven career starts and was last seen finishing second to Bold Thunder in the Turf Dash. Prior to that, he had been on the shelf for seven months. He has had consecutive bullet workouts since his last race and will break from post position three under Rafael Hernandez.
Prudhoe Bay switching back to the turf
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Prudhoe Bay for trainer Edward Plesa, Jr. A four-year-old son of Songandaprayer bred and owned by Rustlewood Farm, he has won four of his ten career starts and will be making his first start since September. He has been training steadily for his return to the races and will attempt to earn his first victory on the turf. Joel Rosario will be aboard and they will break from post position seven.
