Jockey Frazier Wins Race 2000
Racing fans at Denver’s Arapahoe Park got to witness a milestone this past Sunday, as journeyman jockey Don Frazier registered his number 2000 career victory when he guided Fast But Furious to a maiden score in the first race. Frazier is a well-known face on the Colorado-New Mexico-Nebraska circuit, having ridden more than 20,000 races over his career, generating more than $11,000,0000 in purse earnings since he began his career in 1977 in Washington, even though he only rides the summer season.
Frazier likes to make 'dreams come true'
"It's a great accomplishment and not many riders have done it," Frazier said in a press release from Arapahoe Park. "It's a highlight to reach the 2,000. The highlight of my career is to be able to ride some nice horses for some decent people and to bring thrills and be part of making their dreams come true." Frazier has reached 50 wins 18 times in his 36-year career, with the high point being 1985 when he notched 140 winners in 1,152 starts. His career-best earnings came in 2000 when he topped $638,000, while reaching the winner’s circle 88 times.
Fast But Furious notches first win for trainer
Fast But Furious, a two-year-old Colorado bred gelding by Grand Minstral, claimed the five-furlong maiden special weight score by 4 ½ lengths under the guidance of the 53-year-old Frazier, returning $13.60 for the win in his first lifetime start. It was the sixth winner for Frazier this summer at the Denver track. The victory actually set two milestones, as, in addition to Frazier’s accomplishment, it was the first victory of his career for trainer Justin Gleason, who so far has sent out 26 starters at the Arapahoe Park summer meet.
