Luck of the Kitten Tops Field for $100,000 Transylvania Stakes
On Friday at Keeneland, the Spring Meet will kick off with the $100,000 Transylvania Stakes. Carded at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf, the Grade 3 race has drawn a field of thirteen colts and geldings.
Wesley Ward will saddle Luck of the Kitten as the morning line favorite at odds of 7-2 in the deep field. A homebred son of Kitten’s Joy for owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey, he has won two of his five career starts and will be making his first start since finishing second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1). He has been training steadily at Turfway Park for his sophomore debut and will have Mike Smith in the irons from post position ten.
Night Prowler going for second graded stakes win
Night Prowler is the second choice on the morning line at odds of 4-1 for trainer Chad Brown. Bred and owned by Paul Pompa, Jr., the chestnut son of Giant’s Causeway has been on the board in four of his five starts and earned the first graded stakes win of his career two races back in the Dania Beach (G3) at Gulfstream in January. He was fifth last time out in the Palm Beach Stakes (G3) and will have Javier Castellano aboard from post nine.
A Lot stepping back up to stakes competition
Also in the field at odds of 4-1 is A Lot for trainer Bill Mott. A bay son of Tapit, he is trying to earn the first stakes win of his career and has won two of his six outings. After a runner-up effort in the Dania Beach Stakes (G3) in his sophomore debut, he came back to win an optional claiming race at Gulfstream Park in February as the favorite. He will have John Velazquez up and they are scheduled to break from post position four.
