Sharla Rae Ships East for $150,000 Bourbonette Oaks
On Saturday at Turfway Park, the track will host the 33rd edition of the $150,000 Bourbonette Oaks. Scheduled to be run at one mile over the synthetic main track, the race has drawn a full field of twelve three-year-old fillies with two additional listed as also-eligible.
Sharla Rae has been tabbed as the favorite at morning line odds of 5-2 in the wide open field for trainer Doug O’Neill. A bay daughter of Afleet Alex, she has won half of her eight career starts and will be trying to earn her first graded stakes victory. She was last seen winning the California Oaks at Golden Gate by a neck. Drayden Van Dyke will be in the irons and they are scheduled to break from post position nine as she makes only her second start outside of California.
Sweet Success taking on stakes company
Second choice at 4-1 on the morning line is Sweet Success for trainer George Arnold, II. A bay daughter of Candy Ride bred and owned by G. Watts Humphrey, Jr., she will be making her stakes debut after breaking her maiden in her third career start last time out. She defeated a field of eight rivals by a neck after contesting the early lead. Joel Rosario will be aboard for the first time and they will break from post position seven.
Don't Leave Me returning off of a layoff
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Don’t Leave Me for trainer Malcolm Pierce. A gray daughter of Lemon Drop Kid bred and owned by Pin Oak Stud, she has been on the shelf since finishing sixth in the Natalma (G2) in September. Prior to that, she won the first two starts of her career at Woodbine. Jose Lezcano has the mount and they will break from post position three.
