Simulcast Stakes from Aqueduct
Horseplayers in Colorado looking to wager on some mid-week stakes action will be looking to the simulcast of the $100,000 Pearl City Stakes at Aqueduct in New York on Wednesday afternoon. A six-furlong sprint for three-year-old fillies, the Pearl City has drawn a short field of five runners, including a heavy 3-5 morning line favorite in Uno Duo. A Macho Uno filly trained by Bill Mott, Uno Duo was unraced as a juvenile, and the Pearl City will mark her sixth start.
Favorite was close up in recent stakes try
Favored status for Uno Duo comes as the result of finishing in the money in her first four lifetime races, including a sixth-length win to starts back in an $80,000 allowance event run over seven furlongs at Saratoga in July. After three months off, she came back to run fourth in the Dream Rush Stakes at Belmont. The winner of that one, Toasting, had been trying graded-stakes company earlier in the year, running third in the Grade II Black Eyed-Susan in May and fourth in the Grade I Mother Goose.
Upset possibility has had good recent form
If Uno Duo takes the lion’s share of the money for the Pearl City, it will leave the door open for a good upset price to be found elsewhere. Of the rest, the Florida-bred Indian Splendor (5-1) might have the best chance. After an uneven juvenile campaign that ended in an eighth-place finish in the Selima Stakes at Laurel Park, she’s shown good improvement in 2013. She broke her maiden first time out at Monmouth, and followed that up with a second place and a win this summer at Saratoga, the second coming in a dead-heat on muddy ground.
