Willet Takes on Six in $100,000 Interborough Stakes
On Saturday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the 94th running of the $100,000 Interborough Stakes. The six-furlong contest will be run on the inner track and has drawn a field of seven fillies and mares.
Willet has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 and will break from post position three for trainer James Iselin. A seven-year-old daughter of Jump Start bred in New York, the multiple stakes winning mare has won eight times over the course of her career. In 2014, she was on the board in six of her seven starts and held her own against graded stakes competition. She has had a bullet workout since her last race, a third-place finish in the Garland of Roses, and will get a rider switch to Irad Ortiz, Jr.
Aireofdistinction makes debut for Jacobson
Second choice at 5-2 on the morning line is Aireofdistinction who will be making her first start for trainer David Jacobson after being previously campaigned by Steve Asmussen. A five-year-old daughter of Songandaprayer, she has won five of her fourteen starts, three of which came in 2014. She was last seen winning the Open Mind Stakes in September at Churchill Downs and has been training steadily in New York. Fernando Jara will be aboard and they will break from post position seven.
Full sisters Stormy Novel and Bridgehampton set to square off
In a rare occurrence, a pair of full siblings will also compete against each other in the Interborough Stakes. Stormy Novel, a four-year-old daughter of Bernardini out of the Forestry mare Teton National, will break from the rail at odds of 5-1 for John Servis. Directly to her outside is her full sister, five-year-old Bridgehampton at odds of 10-1 for trainer Michael Hushion. Kendrick Carmocuhe has the mount on Stormy Novel while Bridgehampton will have Chuck Lopez in the irons.
