Zeewat Hopes to Light Up Golden Gate
After being on the edges in three of his last four races in graded-stakes company, Pennsylvania-bred Zeewat will try to capture his second-straight non-graded stakes on Monday at Golden Gate in the $50,000 Lost In The Fog Stakes. The Lost In The Fog, for horses four-years-old and up, will go at six furlongs in the all weather track and has drawn a field of six. Zeewat, a four-year-old Harlan’s Holiday colt, will be looking for his seventh win in 14 lifetime starts, and is the morning line favorite at 8-5.
Second choice needs to repeat turf form
Also strongly regarded in the ML is No Silent at 5-2. Two starts back he was second in the Hollywood Turf Express Handicap, after trying unsuccessfully to break into the graded-stakes ranks when he was eleventh in the Grade II Pat O’Brien at Hollywood Park. Another recent second-place finisher in stakes company is Administer, listed here at 3-1. He was runner-up in the Oakland Stakes in November, and has been in the top three in his last seven starts, primarily at the allowance level.
Cal long shot rarely runs a bad one
Of the long shots looking to get a piece of the ticket, the California-bred Mah Gellin (10-1) has been first or second in nine of 12 overall, but will be making his first attempt at a stakes win. At 9-2, Tizaplayer is going after his second straight win, after getting to the wire first by more than four lengths while setting the Golden Gate Track record for 5 1/2 furlongs in an allowance race two weeks ago. Ourwestcoastghost, at 15-1 had a Handicap win at Pleasonton last summer, but has been an also-ran in four straight since.
